The Holistic Approach to Retirement: Finding Meaning Beyond Work and Money
My financial advisor is great at integrating non-financial aspects into our financial planning, asking open-ended questions, and keeping our broader life goals in mind. This holistic approach helps me feel financially secure while also supporting a fulfilling retirement. I was raised with the value of saving money, with my grandfather's advice to “Pay myself first” shaping my financial habits. At 63, I see the importance of saving, especially for retirement, though my strong saving mindset sometimes leads me to resist spending and take on work that reduces my semi-retirement joy.
While I enjoy supporting others through coaching and consulting, I’m learning to question whether extra work would bring me joy or just satisfy my need for savings and work identity. Without clarity on what is truly fulfilling, I could fall into old patterns. Retirement coaching helps me gain the clarity needed to make choices that align with my current and future self. Recently, I said “no” to consulting work to embrace a bigger “yes”—the freedom to find joy in retirement. A step in my desired direction. I am a work in progress.
Many retirees face similar conflicts, not just about finances but about how to find meaning and joy in a new phase of life. I’d ENJOY helping you feel grounded in their retirement. Schedule a free 30-minute consult to explore how we could work together.
